Innerleithen Parish Church is associated with Saint Fillan, a 7th-century Irish monk and healer, who is traditionally linked to several holy wells and sites in the Scottish Borders. Local tradition holds that Saint Fillan performed miracles and offered cures for ailments, particularly those of the eyes and skin, and his wells were often sites of pilgrimage and ritual washing.
