What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular fairy fort on a Mayo bluff where a steep natural slope replaces part of the earthwork, suggesting the land itself helped build the boundary. Its entrance may have opened southeast through a slump and low causeway, while a road now cuts across the western fosse. A small pit stands near the centre with a metal ladder, inviting speculation about whether people stored water, kept something hidden or simply marked the heart of the ring.

In thicket of trees and scrub, located on a bluff, with a steep slope W-N, overlooking a stream to N. Roughly circular raised area (diam. c. 30m) defined by substantial scarp (H 2.4m to SE), which is enhanced at W−N by the steep natural fall of ground, and enclosed at NE−SSW by fosse (Wth 4.5m at S) and external bank (Wth c. 4m; int. H 1m; ext. H c. 0.5m). The fosse is truncated at W by a road, which skirts the rath. The fosse is not evident at NW−NE where rath scarp merges with the steep natural slope. The original entrance may have been at SE where there is a slump (Wth 1.5-2m) in the scarp, with a low causeway extending across the fosse, and a corresponding gap in the external bank. The interior is level. At the time of inspection, a circular pit (diam. 1.1m; D 1.6), of relatively recent date but unknown function, was noted roughly in the centre of the interior.
