Why this matters

A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath); wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

A roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 32m) which appears to be faintly indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and is outlined on the 1947 revision. The monument was levelled in 1961 as part of reclamation work (OPW correspondence). It is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (CUCAP BGG013, 16 July 1971; GB89.AN.05, 22 July 1989) as an enclosure (overall diam. c. 50m) defined by a levelled bank and external fosse and another outer concentric fosse, the two fosses are c. 10m apart.
