What is recorded here

Indicated is a low oval cairn in wet Cavan marshland beside an extinct lake, mapping back to 1836. It stretches sixteen metres east-west and twelve north-south, barely thirty centimetres high, yet large enough to mark a boundary, memory or ceremony. The missing lake may have reflected light onto the stones, making the heap visible from a distance. People may have dropped stones there, changed the shape or forgotten the name while the marsh kept the outline alive.

Depicted as a circular enclosure on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated in wet marshy ground adjacent to what is apparently an extinct lake. Low cairn of small and medium-sized stones (H 0.3m; dims. 16.1m E-W; 12.2m N-S).
