What is recorded here

Situated on a N-facing slope with a depression to the N. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). An enclosure was visible on an aerial photograph (GSIAP M345, 346) and a subcircular enclosure is indicated on the 1916 OS 6-inch map (diam. c. 24m). On inspection in 1998 this was found to be a modern drystone walled enclosure. A hayshed is built on it, partially removing the perimeter. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 9 February 2016

Lissylisheen is a likely early-medieval ringfort, indicated by its subcircular form and associated earthworks visible in aerial photographs. Local tradition may associate such sites with fairy lore, as is common with many raths in Ireland, though specific folklore for this site is not recorded.
