Indicated marks the vanished eastern edge of a deep fosse that once guarded Cell Manach Eascrach. The drawbridge lifted to bar unwanted visitors, yet the whole enclosure has slipped beneath ordinary ground. What remains is a line on a survey map, pointing at dirt that may still hold monastery bones.

The church at Kilnamanagh was associated with a disused graveyard (DU022-005003-) which according to the Letters was enclosed by a wide and deep fosse which had a drawbridge (ed. O'Flanagan 1927, 34). This is thought to be the site of the early monastery of Cell Manach Eascrach (Ua Broin 1944, 194-195; Ball 1905, 3, 20-1; Handcock 1991, 66-67, 2nd ed).
