What is recorded here

Indicated is the remains of Kilfinny Castle in County Limerick, where two quadrilateral towers still flank a narrow court. The castle resisted Confederate attackers in 1642, but heavy guns taken from Limerick overcame it after only three shots. Its stones record a hall house made into a fortress, a dangerous siege and the continuing habit of people shaping stone for defence and memory.

In tillage. D-shaped area (7.5m N-S; 4.5m E-W) defined S->N by steeply-scarped edge (H 1.45m) but truncated on W side by N-S field fence. Known locally as "The Fort". Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
