What is recorded here
In undulating terrain on top of a low ridge. The eastern portion of the hollow-way is in pasture and the western portion is in tillage. Railstown church (TS061-125----) and graveyard (TS061-125001-) are located c. 400m to the NNW of the eastern end. The linear hollow-way (total L c. 500m) runs E–W westward from the northern portion of the settlement (TS061-126----). The western portion (L c. 300m) of the hollow-way, running downslope to the W from the Kilbragh townland boundary into Railstown, appears to be indicated on the 2nd (1906) ed. 6-inch OS map by roughly parallel field boundaries (Wth c. 12-15m). The southern boundary has since been levelled leaving no visible trace of the hollow-way above ground. The eastern portion (L c. 200m) is delineated by a bank/scarp on either side, the eastern half is slightly narrower (Wth at base 2.7m; S bank int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.35m; Wth at top 1.7m; overall Wth 4.2m; N scarp H 0.66m). Approximately 100m from the E end the hollow-way appears to deliberately widen out to 13.5m for c. 20m and then narrows again (Wth at base 5m; S bank int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.35m; Wth at top 1.55m; overall Wth 5.8m; N scarp H 0.43m).
