What is recorded here

Indicated is a forgotten fairy fort on a Mayo rise, its broad earthen bank and deep fosse still framing a circular chamber now choked with briar and nettle. It looks down through a narrow valley toward the Ashbrook River, as if set there to watch water leave the land. People may have lived inside its steep scarped edges before becoming story, but the forceness of its shape suggests more than a child's game.

On a rise in undulating pasture overlooking a valley to the E through which a small stream flows N to join the Ashbrook River. A large densely overgrown, roughly circular area (int. diams. 50m E-W; 48m N–S, 50m E–W) is defined by an inner scarp (H 3m), a fosse (Wth 2-3m) and an outer earthen bank (int. H over base of fosse 0.5m; av. Wth 4m; ext. H 0.8-1.5m) which is overlain by a later field wall in the NE sector. The interior slopes slightly down towards the E and is briar and nettle covered.
