Why this matters

A local church or high cross; wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

Situated along the heavily overgrown S edge of an ecclesiastical enclosure (CL007-003001-), on the S crest of a low E–W ridge. Indicated on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch maps. A rectangular structure (L 10m E–W; int. Wth 4.4m) mostly defined by a collapsed stone wall but with standing elements at the W end of the N wall (Wth 0.8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.8m) and along the E gable line (Wth 0.95m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.5m) composed of inner and outer stones facing a rubble core but with no obvious trace of mortar. A gap (Wth 0.7m) at the E end of the S wall is probably the original entrance. The interior is filled with collapsed stone. The church defines the E side of a children’s burial ground (CL007-003003-), just NW of which are the collapsed remains of another building (CL007-003002-). A holy well (CL007-002----) lies c. 75m to the WNW. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Ros Ó Maoldúin Date of upload: 30 September 2021
