What is recorded here
Indicated is a forgotten circular enclosure in County Mayo, Ireland, perhaps a ringfort now hidden beneath pasture. The 1838 map still draws its thirty-five-metre ghost, though boots and ploughs have long since erased the ridge. It remains a quiet challenge to belief because measurement can preserve what memory and soil have released.
In pasture, skirted by road to E. Faint outline of circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) shown on OS map (1838). Levelled; no visible surface traces. Possibly a ringfort.
The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 350.
