What is recorded here

Indicated is a living graveyard beside Canon Island abbey in County Clare, where new headstones still appear among old stone. The abbey stands at one edge and an overgrown ecclesiastical curve closes the other, giving the place the shape of a room rather than a field. People have kept returning there to bury their dead, which suggests the island still believes in company, memory and the continuation of love.

A subrectangular graveyard (32m NW-SE; 36m NE-SW) immediately SW of Canon Island abbey (CL060-011002-). The graveyard is defined by the abbey itself at NE and by the overgrown curve of the ecclesiastical enclosure to the SW. The area is still used for burial and there are some 19th and 20th century headstones in the church and in the chapel N of the church.
