What is recorded here
In level grassland. The 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map shows a group of three rectangular buildings, two with their roofs intact. What is visible are three rectangular grass-covered house platforms, albeit in a different configuration to those shown on OS 6-inch map. These comprise: (a) aligned E-W (L 9.3m, Wth 4.9m); (b) immediately to E and similarly aligned (L 7.2m, Wth 4.6m); and (c) a short distance to NW of (a) aligned N-S (L 7m, Wth 4.3m) but poorly defined. The curving field boundary marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1920) immediately to NE appears modern.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
