Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a broken earthen ring in Mayo pasture, its shallow bank exposing more sky than shadow. The missing western wall and uncertain purpose remove it from memory, leaving behind a quiet empty chamber rather than a dramatic chamber.
In pasture, located on ground, with ridges of higher ground to N, E and W. This rath consists of a slightly raised, roughly circular area (33m NE−SW; 31m NW−SE) defined by a bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.5m at SSE) of earth and stone. At W and N the bank is set on a low scarp, but no such scarp is evident at E and S. The bank is poorly preserved, with several eroded breaks. There is a broad gap (Wth 12m) at E, with a ramp like slope, which is not original. There is another rath (MA090-088----) 140m to NW. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 7 February 2018
