What is recorded here
Situated on S facing slope of a gentle rise with extensive views to E, S & NW. Ringfort (WM011-091----) 370m to W. The road which marks the boundary with Grange townland is 5m to NE. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as a circular enclosure annotated as ‘pit or old fort’. Depicted as a quarry and not as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. This site is almost completely levelled. All that remains is a large irregular shaped quarry hole and spoil heaps. Local information suggests that stone was quarried from this location to build Grange Hall, which is 500m to W. May have been a ringfort that was quarried out for materials to build Grange Hall. Alternatively the site may have been a quarry with no ringfort at this location.
