Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a fairy fort, a circular earthen ring about thirty-five metres across, marked on maps from 1842 and 1904 before ploughs and fences erased most of its shape. Only a southeastern arc remains hidden inside a field boundary, yet the lost circle still belongs to the pasture and invites imagination about the people or spirits who once drew that line in the earth.
In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; arc formed by earthen bank survives in field fence (townland boundary) to SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
