What is recorded here

Indicated is a small crannog in Annagh Lough, County Cavan, where summer drought exposes a tongue of land connecting it to the shore. Davies found a rectangular house foundation there, its upright blocks still standing within a shallow basin of earth. The lake gives the place back and takes it away again, forcing whoever lives nearby to read water as a door rather than a wall.

Small irregular-shaped island (max. dim. c. 26m NE-SW) in Annagh Lough, c. 40m from the shoreline. When water-levels are low during the summer months the island is in fact joined to the mainland. Davies (NMI Survey 1941) recorded a rectangular house foundation (int. dims. 6.7m x 8.8m;H 3.8m) comprising large upright blocks with apparently a good depth of earth inside.
