This bronze commemorative plaque records: This plaque marks the site of The Labour Institute Peckover Street. On January 16th 1863 this building was the base from which the Inaugral Conference of the Independent Labour Party was organised.
The Independent Labour Party (ILP), founded in 1893, was a socialist political party that played a crucial role in the formation of the British Labour Party, advocating for working-class interests and independence from Liberal Party influence.
