What is recorded here

Hutton Castle, East Lodge stands in the Scottish Borders as an early 20th Century gate lodge, gate pier and wall, marking the entrance to a larger estate rather than the castle itself. The stone work still performs its old job, framing the approach and telling visitors they have reached the boundary of someone else's land. Whether the lodge kept out intruders or simply shaped the arrival of guests, it turned an ordinary road into a threshold, and that distinction is what makes the place memorable.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Hutton Castle, East Lodge as Gate Lodge (early 20th Century), Gate Pier (early 20th Century), Wall (early 20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
