Three stone huts stood in a straight line on the lower slopes of Mount Eagle, but time and perhaps human ambition have reduced them to a single wedge-shaped cairn pressed against a field wall. Two faint depressions remain in its surface, ghost outlines of rooms where people once lived, while the third has vanished entirely. What is left is neither a ruin nor a monument but a smudge of stone and memory, the kind of place that resists description and invites imagination.

On lower SE slopes of Mount Eagle. Macalister (1899, 239) noted 3 clochauns in a N-S line here. Very little of these is now traceable, the site surviving as a large wedge-shaped cairn abutting the E side of a N-S field wall. The partial outlines of 2 of the huts are traceable as depressions in the surface of this cairn, partly defined by wall-facing. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
