What is recorded here

Deelish holds a rectangular hut site inside a rath, its stone foundations still marking a small living space from before written memory. The measurements are modest, but the shape is clear: a room built deliberately, not a heap of fallen wall. It may have housed a herder, a keeper of the rath, or a family that moved with the seasons. Whatever it was, it was made to be lived in, and it is still standing enough to be seen.
In rath (CO119-014----). Stone foundations of rectangular hut site (6.4m E-W; 6m N-S) in NW quadrant of interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
