Hut site

What is recorded here

Within a field system (KE070-119----). The remains of an oval hut site (3.5m x 2.1m) defined by a drystone wall (T 0.7m; H 0.9m) of large rubble. The SE wall is built against outcropping rock. The interior of the hut site appears to be at a lower level than the external ground level at S. The main entrance is situated in the W wall. There is a circular annexe to the S which is filled with collapse. The ground level in the annexe appears to be slightly higher than that of the hut site. (Harte 2002, 147, no. D501) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011
