An Riasc holds a small rectangular hut built against an enclosure wall, its thick dry stones rising barely sixty centimetres above the earth. The north entrance remains blocked by a single erect slab, sealing the interior where modern animals may have sheltered rather than ancient people. The site sits near Calluragh burial ground, overlooking Smerwick Harbour, inviting wonder about whether the hut served the living, the dead, or both before becoming a simple beast refuge.

National Monument No. 519. Calluragh burial ground/An Cheallnúach: KE042-060001- is located about 1.25km E of the village of Ballyferriter on approximately the highest point in the townland with a good view to the N over Smerwick Harbour. (5) Clochauns: Structure E (KE042-060013-) is a small rectangular dry-walled structure built against the inner face of the enclosure wall. It measures 5.5 x 2.8m internally. Its walls are, on average, 1.4m thick and survive to a maximum height of .65m. An entrance feature in the N wall, 1m wide, is blocked by a single erect slab. Excavation of the interior yielded little in the way of finds and, whatever its original use, it was probably utilized in modern times as an animal shelter. The above description is derived from J.
