Hummelknowes on Castle Law holds a middle Iron Age brooch, though the exact spot remains hidden within a kilometre of open Scottish Borders land. The small brass marker may have clipped a woman’s cloak or a man’s tunic, pulling bright across dark wool during ordinary life. You can picture the hand that lost it, perhaps in haste or fear, but the law keeps the precise ground private. The brooch escaped burial and returned to human memory only through modern discovery, bridging centuries without naming the person who wore it.
