House

House, 17th century

What is recorded here

The Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Crannagh depicts three substantial houses between 'Rathmakan' and 'Courtnegapp' (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin) while on the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of 'Tulleroane' there are two houses depicted in 'Gurtnegapp' and four in 'Rathmakan'. The terrier accompanying the parish map mentions these townlands as belonging to John Grace in 1640, however as his land was unforfeited there was no need to survey it in any great detail and therefore the townland boundaries are not drawn. The precise location of these houses within the townlands of Gortnagap and Rathmacan are unknown. See attached: KK017-011----_01 Extract from Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Crannagh (Hib. Reg., courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). KK017-011----_02 Extract from Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of 'Tulleroane' (Hib. Reg., courtesy of Trinity College Dublin).
