What is recorded here
Detached three-bay single-storey Tudor Revival house with half-dormer attic, c.1875, with single-bay two-storey gabled central entrance bay. Extended, c.1900, comprising single-bay single-storey recessed end bay with half-dormer attic to left. Refenestrated. Pitched slate roof (gabled to entrance bay) with clay ridge tiles, red brick Running bond chimney stack, cut-limestone chamfered coping to gables, slightly sproketed eaves, and cast-iron rainwater goods on cut-stone eaves having dentil corbels. Tooled limestone ashlar walls with painted rendered wall to rear (west) elevation. Square-headed window openings to ground floor with pointed-arch window openings to half-dormer attic having cut-limestone sills, cut-limestone surrounds having chamfered reveals, hood mouldings over, and replacement uPVC casement windows. Tudor-headed door opening with cut-limestone surround having chamfered reveals, hood moulding over, and replacement glazed timber panelled door. Set in own grounds perpendicular to road with random rubble stone boundary wall, and side (north) elevation fronting on to road.
A picturesque small-scale house distinguished as a landmark on account of individual architectural attributes including the varied profiles of the openings producing a Tudor Revival theme in the composition. The construction in locally-sourced stone produces a sober, almost monochromatic palette in the streetscape while finely-carved dressings exhibit high quality stone masonry. However, the external expression of the house has not benefited from the insertion of inappropriate replacement fittings to the openings.
