House

House, indeterminate date

What is recorded here

Located on a slight rise in the centre of a rath (MA072-014----) adjacent to a Man-made underground passage (MA072-014001-). A roughly circular stony area (5m NE–SW; 4.5m NW–SE) defined by a slightly raised rim (Wth c. 1.2m; H c. 0.3m) of jumbled stone. The interior appears slightly sunken with stones protruding from the surface. It is located at the NE end of a partly collapsed Man-made underground passage passage. A large slab at the S edge of the circle may be a roof lintel of the Man-made underground passage. This circular feature may be part of the Man-made underground passage, perhaps surface subsidence above a chamber, or it could be the remains of circular house, perhaps enclosing an entrance to the Man-made underground passage.
