This bronze commemorative plaque records: Horace Walpole stayed here 1766
Horace Walpole was a prominent writer and letter-writer of the 18th century, known for inventing the gothic novel genre with "The Castle of Otranto" (1764). He is also remembered for his preservation and transformation of Strawberry Hill House, which influenced Gothic Revival architecture.
