HOLY WELL: TOBERPATRICK in Dunderg, Macosquin

HOLY WELL: TOBERPATRICK

What is recorded here

Holy wells appeared everywhere people wanted clean water or divine favour, but Toberpatrick in Dunderg, Macosquin still belongs to that old human hunger. The name points toward Patrick, yet the water may have been sacred long before his story reached the field. People may have dipped cups, washed wounds or left small gifts beside the pond while pretending not to watch for a sign.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as HOLY WELL: TOBERPATRICK. Recorded period: UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Linked to Saint Patrick, the well is traditionally associated with healing and pilgrimage, with devotees often leaving coins or making offerings for cures. Such sites were historically important in early Christian Ireland, often replacing or incorporating pre-Christian sacred locations.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
