On the north shore of Oileán An Mhadaidh, a natural pothole below the high-water mark holds water that local tradition claims cures bone pain. Legend says St Columcille hid there from the saints of Oileáin Árainn, turning the rock into a holy well. The story pictures a corner of Ireland where even divine figures became hunters and prey.

The holy well is associated with St Columcille, who, according to local tradition, created the site while hiding from the saints of Oileái. It is believed to have curative properties, particularly for bone pain.
