Holy well in Kyle East, kyle West

Holy well

What is recorded here

Thubberakilleen is a holy well hidden somewhere in Kyle East or Kyle West, marked only by memory and a vanished church. It belonged to the original parish of Cooliagh, whose stones were uprooted and ploughed into ordinary farm land. The well may have remained when the building disappeared, keeping the sacred water flowing while human hands forgot where to look.
According to Carrigan (1905, 335) the original parish church of Cooliagh (KK026-036----) was situated in the townland of ‘Kyle’, together with its graveyard (KK026-036001-), in the ‘churchyard field’, but had been uprooted and ‘subject to the plough’. In the corner of the churchyard field was a well called ‘Thubberakilleen’. The precise location of the holy well within the townlands of Kyle East and Kyle West is unknown.
