Holy well in Inis Ní

Holy well

What is recorded here

Killanin located a holy well just south of St Mathias’s church in Inis Ní, yet no visible trace or local memory confirms it today. The site resists description, hiding beneath ordinary ground while the church above remains clear. It is the kind of place that withdraws when watched, leaving only the certainty that water once belonged there.
Killanin (1954, 101) notes that just to the S of St Mathias’s church (GA050-011001-) there is a well. No visible surface trace of it survives and there is no cartographical or local information to confirm its existence. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 8 August 2016
