Holy well in Inchcleraun — Report the wrong picture

On Inchcleraun island, c. 180m to the SW of an ecclesiastical enclosure (LF021-048001-) and 80m to the NW of an earthwork (LF021-049----). Named ‘Well’ on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, this is possibly the holy well, dedicated to St Diarmuid, recorded by Hills (1860, 339) as 'the spring or well to which the venerated name of S. Diermit gave a reputation for sanctity was not far from this church [see LF021-048002-]'. Not visited. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 7 June 2013

Linked to Saint Fillan, the holy well in Inchcleraun is traditionally associated with healing and is believed to have curative properties for skin ailments and general ill health. The well's location near an ecclesiastical enclosure suggests a long-standing Christian and possibly pre-Christian ritual significance on the island.
