Holy wells have long drawn people seeking clarity, healing or a place to remember what they are afraid of forgetting. In the Gardens area of Kilkenny, water may have marked the edge between the ordinary city and a older inner life. People may have come alone at dusk, touched the basin, dropped a coin or simply sat with the sound of rain in stone. The well does not need a grand legend; it needs a rememberer.
