Colmcille's well drips from a rocky crevice above the Nanny, collecting coins and promises while a stone wall holds the bank steady. People still whisper that its cold water eases sore eyes, turning a ordinary riverside into a place where suffering can be poured out and forgotten.

A natural spring known as 'Colmcille's well' that runs out of a rocky crevice in the south bank of the river Nanny. The bank at this point is revetted by a stone masonry wall. There is evidence for veneration with coins placed in the hollow and it is reputed to cure sore eyes (pers. comm. Colin Byrne) Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 10 December 2013

Linked to St. Columba (Colmcille), the well is traditionally associated with healing and pilgrimage. Coins found at the site suggest a long-standing practice of votive offerings, reflecting the saint’s widespread veneration in early Christian Ireland.
