Three holy wells hide in Boggan, but the Holy Cross well has forgotten its own marker. Water still moves under the soil, perhaps waiting for a rediscovered stone or a remembered prayer. The townland keeps its secret patiently, forcing visitors to wonder whether devotion requires a visible cup or only an active imagination.

According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 498), in Boggan townland, 'there is a well called Tubber na Cruchthanee, or, as the old people explain the name, Well of the Holy Cross'. O'Kelly (1985, 28) also mentions this well, calling it, 'Tobar na Croiche Naoi (Naofa), holy cross well' and adds that, 'local inhabitants say "there are three holy wells in Boggan".
