HOLY WELL: BALLYBOT or THE GLEN WELL

What is recorded here

Mairi and I walked the glen at dusk when the well emerged beside a rowan branch. Water climbed through dark soil and filled our flask without hesitation. We drank once, washed our hands, and left a copper coin on the moss. The mountain kept its secret, but it did not refuse us.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as HOLY WELL: BALLYBOT or THE GLEN WELL. Recorded period: UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Linked to Saint Botan, this holy well is traditionally associated with cures for skin ailments and general healing. Local folklore suggests that the well’s waters were once used in seasonal rituals, particularly during the month of May, to ensure health and protection for the coming year.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
