Why this matters

HMS Ramillies was a British Royal Navy Ironclad battleship, launched in 1872. It was lost on 13 April 1873 during sea trials off the coast of Devon, when it sank after hitting a rock in thick fog; no lives were lost, and its wreck remains a notable example of 19th-century naval technology.
