Hms Pathfinder: North Sea

HMS Pathfinder was a British Royal Navy scout cruiser launched in 1899 and lost in the North Sea on 5 September 1914, during World War I, after striking a mine laid by the German Navy. The ship sank quickly, resulting in the deaths of 246 of the 252 crew members; only 6 survived. Its loss was a significant early naval tragedy of the war and highlighted the growing threat of mine warfare.
