Ballymoney emerged as a living settlement during the Late-Medieval period and continued changing through the Modern era. Its several names suggest a place remembered by different people at different times rather than one fixed identity. The town parks now hold the visible remains of that long human presence.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as HISTORIC SETTLEMENT: BALLYMONEY or BALIBONY or BALLEBONI or BALLYVOONY. Recorded period: LATE-MED; POST-MED; MODERN; C18TH; C19TH; C20TH.
