Hirendean Castle may be a castle or a cairn, but that uncertainty is the whole point. A castle demands a lord, a hall and a history bright enough to remember. A cairn demands only stones, placed by someone who wanted to mark the ground and leave it alone. The distinction between those two shapes may be the difference between a story invented and a story remembered.
