Hensol Castle on The Island at Pontyclun is a Post Medieval folly, the kind of place built less for defence than for wonder. It still stands in the Vale of Glamorgan, marked in the national record as a deliberate anomaly rather than a practical home. Perhaps someone wanted a castle where a castle did not belong, forcing the landscape to answer back.
