This white commemorative plaque records: Stanmer Park. Stanmer House was built in 1722 by Henry Pelham & the park laid out by Thomas Pelham who in 1801 was created the first Earl of Chichester. The estate comprises over 5000 acres & contains the villages of Stanmer & Falmer.

Henry Pelham FRS, a prominent British statesman and Prime Minister from 1743 to 1754, commissioned Stanmer House in 1722; his nephew Thomas Pelham, later Earl of Chichester, expanded the estate's parkland, reflecting the family’s significant influence in local development and British politics.
