This blue commemorative plaque records: Maudslay Rope-forming Machine Designed and manufactured in 1811 by Henry Maudslay (1771-1831). It was used to re-rope HMS Victory and is still in use today. Recorded plaque organisation: Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Henry Maudslay, a pioneering English engineer and inventor, designed the rope-forming machine in 1811; his innovations in machine tools and manufacturing processes significantly advanced the Industrial Revolution.
