Mosaic tiles and brass rings compete for attention inside the Masonic Hall, but the small bronze plaque beside the door still belongs to Henry Joy McCracken. It repeats his name, his Presbyterians, his United Irishmen and the date he led them at Antrim before the Cornmarket rope. Faithful to the last is not praise, it is a knife pulled back from the wound.

Henry Joy McCracken was a radical Belfast Presbyterian and leader of the United Irishmen, executed for his role in leading insurgents at the Battle of Antrim during the 1798 rebellion.
