This commemorative plaque records: The Earl of Richmond. On August 21st 1485, Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, having received Mass at Merevale Abbey, is reputed to have slept at an inn on this site named The Three Tuns. Upon his bloody victory over Richard III at the battle of Bosworth the following day, Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond was was crowned Henry III King of England.
King Henry VII of England, not Henry III, ascended to the throne after defeating Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, marking the beginning of the Tudor dynasty and ending the Wars of the Roses.
