Hatton Castle, Sundial

Sundial (period Unassigned)

What is recorded here

A thin shadow crosses white stone while the castle ruins watch from beside it. The sundial still measures days in Aberdeenshire, though no date is recorded for the brass or stone disc. It may have belonged to a household that watched the light move across Hatton Castle, or it may be a later gift to the grounds. Either way, the sun still completes what human memory has lost.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Hatton Castle, Sundial as Sundial (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
