Hallyards Castle in Fife stood as a hunting seat for Malcolm Canmore before becoming a bishopric residence until 1539. French troops blew the house during the Reformation Crisis, prompting Mary of Guise to mock John Knox while William Kirkcaldy later avenged the destruction. The ruins survived royal tours and changing owners before demolition in 1847, leaving only faint traces on farmland near Auchtertool.
