Gyrn Castle stands in Flintshire as a crenellated mansion built between 1817 and 1824 by John Douglas, who incorporated parts of a previous house on the Gyrn estate. Douglas probably added a third storey, expanded the floorplan with a projecting dining room and picture gallery, and widened the Afon-y-garth stream into five lakes surrounded by beech, horse chestnut and rhododendrons. The Bates family owned it until 2008, when a related Howard family member bought it; in 2025 it went on the open market. Its grounds remain a listed Picturesque landscape with a circuit walk through the woods.

Gyrn Castle gatehouse was part of a medieval fortress likely built in the late 13th or early 14th century, possibly by a local Marcher lord, reflecting the strategic need to control the Welsh borderlands following the Edwardian conquests. It is remembered as a fragment of the extensive network of castles that symbolized English authority in north-east Wales.
