What is recorded here
Gubnapausty is a children's burial ground in County Mayo, Ireland. It is not a showpiece or a completed public record, but a real place where young lives ended and were hidden beneath the earth. The children may have been local, temporary, sick, strong, named or forgotten. Their parents carried them somewhere clean and gave them up to soil. That act is not decoration. It is love under duress, done in a small place, and the land still holds what the people released.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
